The truth is photography can feel expensive, and a lot of people are left asking why? Why should I pay that much for a 1hr photo session. So, I’m tackling this subject in two parts. First why you should document your life and the value of collecting memories. Second, the physical value of a good photographer. So here we go!

SAVE IT

Time flies. We all know that, and having a physical collection of those moments is so precious. Take time to do family photos, documenting growth is important. You will change with time, and photographs will remind you of how far you’ve come and why you loved those people at that time.

Invest in a photographer to document major family events. Things like anniversaries, reunions, birthdays, graduations and other milestones. This will give you the freedom to enjoy the time with your loved ones and guarantee you a beautiful collection of curated photos. Isn’t this preferred to the cobbled-together facebook gallery of blurry photos posted by your aunt?

I’m having my wedding photographer come and shoot the rehearsal dinner too because I know that night is going to be special. Mingling over BBQ in my parent’s backyard, enjoying time together. Yes, I could do the photos but I want to be in them. I want those final hours before we say “I do”, the ones where family and friends have collected in an intimate setting, to be recorded. I have a feeling those pictures might be some of my favourites looking back.

"Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling."

WORTH IT

Yes, photography can feel expensive but remember you’re not paying for the 1 hour they’re there. You’re paying for the 300 hours they put into being GOOD. You’re paying for a storyteller, an expert, a service and a product.

You’re paying for their equipment, their planning skills, travel and editing time and their expertise. There’s at least 3-4 other hours going into your shoot, not to mention how expensive photography equipment is. Just do a lens search. Your jaw will DROP!

We are visual, I love swiping through old photos on my phone. I have a notoriously short term memory so documentation is a saving grace. I have never regretted the time it took to take those pictures that matter. If anything I regret the ones I missed snapping.

If you want your next family event captured email me at sarah@remarkablevisuals.ca I’d love to hear from you. Even if it’s just to say hey.
